The Teaching in Marine Science Lab at the University of Georgia is collection of motivated people with one shared passion: education.
We are broadly interested in science education, using local marine organisms and emerging issues facing our coastlines as a lens for our teaching. Specifically, we focus on science teaching and learning in various settings (inside/outside the classroom, laboratory and field, aquarium) and for various audiences (college, K-12 students, teachers, general public).
We are always recruiting students with a shared passion to join our team. Click below for current student opportunities.
Marine science education and outreach
We are dedicated to advancing science education for all audiences. Our team collaborates on diverse education and outreach projects, from university laboratory courses to K-12 classroom visits, aiming to increase science literacy.
Learning science through aquarium experiences
The TeaMSci Aquarium features over 15 saltwater tanks, housing over 40 local Georgia marine organisms. This space provides an opportunity for students to volunteer and intern in aquarium science.
Science education research
My research reflects my passion. I specialize in college biology education research but I also have a soft spot for informal marine science education research. As both a trained marine biologist and science education researcher, my research uncovers instructional decisions of faculty teaching introductory biology courses and I am particularly interested in how new scientists enter their disciplinary community through writing.
