Aquarium Science

TeamMSci Lab has 15+ saltwater aquarium tanks with 40+ marine organisms housed on the Athens campus. These tanks and organisms are maintained and cared for by our team of technicians, interns and volunteers.

About the Aquarium

TeaMSci Lab's saltwater aquarium was created in 2005. The tanks and infrastructure are clearly 20 years old, but the systems are thriving. Most organisms are local to Georgia and were collected from Skidaway Island.

Meet the Organisms

We currently have the following organisms in our tanks:

  • Fish: moray eel (Linguine - picture below), southern flounder, stripped burrfish (Miss Puff)

  • True crabs: stone crab, hermit crabs, blue crab

  • Gastropods: horse conch, knobbed whelk, pear whelk

  • Others: sea star,  mussels and horseshoe crabs.

Aquarium Duties 

As an intern or volunteer, you will help out the daily and weekly aquarium duties. These include but are not limited to: feeding, water changes, water quality, making seawater, cleaning tanks, animal enrichment, sediment changes, etc.
